Dalmau was born and raised in Spain, where the passion and temperament of his culture became an intrinsic part of his artistic practice. Since 2012 the Valencian artist is based in Rotterdam, where the conceptual and methodological influences of the Dutch artistic culture have permeated his most recent projects. This cultural miscegenation defines his current line of work, where passion, method, and concept converge in his creative proposal.
Paco Dalmau’s artistic career is structured within different series, in which the artist has basically explored two artistic disciplines: painting and installation. Through his interest in these two branches, each series has had the objective of investigating within different topics. Polyptychs (2008/2011) was dedicated to the study of psychological portraits in large format.
Fractions (2011/2013) was an approach to minimalist painting, and its relationship with installation, light and space. White Wall Project (2013/2018) works on the aspects of public art, site-specific installation, social participation and exhibition propositions. Retuns (2014/2018), a series framed within expressive abstract painting, was focused on the accomplishment of highly nuanced color paintings, blurred with rich in chromaticism. This series, laid the seed for the latest and most recognized of his series, Evolution.
The artist lives at B.A.D foundation, and works at Studio Pompstraat 44C in Rotterdam. From 2017 until 2021 has been director of the White Wall Foundation, which was dedicated to the development of his public art projects. Currently, his artistic practice is entirely focused on the development of the Evolution series, a series of abstract paintings. Dalmau have been granted by Mondriaan Fonds and CBK Rotterdam among others, exhibited his works at Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Museum Belvedere or PAN Amsterdam, and winner of several prizes during his career.
