ArchiveReturn series (2014- current) Dalmau began to experiment with the concept of consciousness and mindfulness applied to the image as a personal and artistic exercise. His objective was to achieve dynamic, ethereal and mysterious paintings, paintings that required the viewer to contemplate peaceful, calm and unhurried. The superposition of layers, blurring and visual lightness make up the main motif of this series carried out with oil on canvas.
White Wall Project (2013-2018) whitewallproject.eu White Wall Project is an artwork, an ongoing series of monumental site-specific installations based on social and artistic participation to bring people together through the art. The painting is the main vehicle by which this social experience is built, having as a meeting point for all the interaction an enormous canvas construction. The first edition of the project was launched by the Spanish artist Paco Dalmau in December 2013 in Rotterdam (NL). White Wall Project it is the culmination of the merger that Dalmau began to investigate in 2008 with “Polyptychs collection”. The artist wants to merge painting with installation in XL format. Both projects combine painting and installation on a large scale, although they differ in their exhibition purpose, the first in exhibition spaces, the second in public space. In White Wall Project, Dalmau does not paint himself, he provides the space for the artistic participation and interaction of other people. White Wall Project is an initiative that is ongoing and seeks to innovate in every new edition. Since its creation in 2013, the project has won a prize such as the Waterwegcultuurprijs 2017, various donations and financial support from institutions such as Gemeente Schiedam or “de Groote Fonds”. The project has been exhibited at institutions like the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam or Worm Rotterdam. On the occasion of the 5th Edition, the project have had more than 1000 participants.
The fractions collection is made up of monochrome paintings and geometric shapes that want to explore the relationship between installation and painting. In this collection Dalmau abandons figuration to work solely and exclusively in the field of abstraction, much more intimate and less descriptive and narrative. The minimalist approach allows the artist to focus on the transformation of the space and the particularities of its installation. This collection wants to transport us to flexible and clean spaces, direct and simple images that make us reflect on the influence of color and shape and how these factors affect our perception of reality.
Polyptychs collection: Family portraits (2008-2011) publication Polyptychs collection it’s Dalmau’s first project as a professional. The artist works on the idea of repetition to create a visual pattern. Each of the 17 pieces in this series is made up of squares, which, like a puzzle, make up large scale portraits of a marked psychological character. The final pieces are realistic expressionism portraits wrapped in flat backgrounds, this combination emphasizes the expressiveness of each character, and highlights the chromaticism of each piece, which transports us to different sensations based on the psychology of color. In any case, the collection is completely open to the personal perception of each viewer, the fractional construction of each painting introduces a playful ingredient for the viewer, with which it opens the door for personal imagination and speculation when composing different images, or realities when contemplating each piece. This collection was carried out between 2008 and 2011. It was the beginning of Dalmau’s relationship with painting and installation. Being his motive and inspiration the people who always support him.
